TIME HOSPITAL CHAPLAINS’ ASSISTANTS

INCREASES TO NATIONAL SALARY SCALES –
THREE YEAR DEAL

Summary

1. I am writing to inform you that the Management Side of the Scientific and Professional Staffs Whitley Council and representatives of whole time hospital chaplains and whole time hospital chaplains’ assistants have reached agreement on the issue listed above. Agreement has been reached on increases to the national salary scales for the years 1999-2000, 2000-2001 and 2001-2002.

2. The new arrangements set out in this letter and its Appendices provide for increases in salary scales to be agreed with employers. The details of the agreement are as follows:

Increases to National Salary Scales

3. 1999 - 2000

An increase of 3% or £250, whichever is the higher, to the national salary scales with effect from 1 April 1999.

2000 – 2001

An increase of 3.25% or £300, whichever is the higher, to the national salary scales with effect from 1 April 2000.

2001 –2002

In the context of agreement on the negotiations on Agenda for Change (including the principle of pay linkage as set out in paragraph 7.4 of the Joint Framework of Principles and Agreed Statement on the Way Forward issued on 8 October 1999) and the joint commitment to lifelong learning, a minimum RPI(X) at December 2000 reported in January 2001, plus 0.5%.

Revised salaries for Whole-Time Chaplains and Whole-Time Chaplains’ Assistants in Scotland are set out in the attached replacement pages for Appendices A and B.
