MENTAL HEALTH AND WELL BEING SUPPORT
GROUP
RISK MANAGEMENT REPORT

Summary

1. The attached guidance offers advice to clinicians and carers on the management and reduction of risk in care and other settings.

Background

2. The guidance accepts that risk is a constant, and in these terms must be assessed and as far as possible reduced to improve individual, staff and public safety. Safe working which also enhances the daily lives of those with a mental illness is promoted, delivery of which relies upon the skills and training applied to the assessment of risk.

Action

3. This guidance is of interest to all service providers. Primary Care NHS Trusts and Islands Health Boards are invited to draw this guidance to the particular attention of GPs in their area.

4. Requests for copies of the report can be made to
0131-244-2645. This HDL and the report are available on the SHOW web site at www.show.scot.nhs.uk on the Scottish Executive publications page.

Yours sincerely
