Description
Variant CJD was discovered by the National CJD Surveillance Unit in Edinburgh in 1996, and initially labelled"New Variant"CJD (nvCJD). So far there have been 43 cases in the UK, all fatal.
A further MEL giving guidance on decontamination was issued in November 1999 (MEL 1999 no 79)..
