Description
This letter informs on updates to the BASRiS Guidance following changes resulting from the phased transfer of disability benefits to Scotland and legislative changes to the DWP processes. This guidance supercedes the previous CMO Letter - SGHD/CMO(2021)15. The CMO guidance required by legislation has been endorsed by the CNO, and both Registered Medical Practitioners (RMPs) and Registered Nurses (RNs) are required by legislation to take account of the guidance while making a clinical judgement about terminal illness (Appendix C). A phased introduction of Scotland’s disability benefits is in progress. Appendix B sets out the timeline for the transfer as well as where the DWP SR1 forms (previously DS1500) will continue to be required. This letter also advises of the further support available to clinicians aimed at helping with the implementation of the Scottish terminal illness provisions. Additional information and background is in Appendix A. It also provides information about the Outline Framework, a scoping document which will be used to aiming to analyse the implementation of the CMO guidance (Annex J in the Guidance).
